Merry Corky White as seen on the most recent cover of the wonderful StandArt Magazine, is in town again for an event of talks she has curated for us. This is Prufrock’s attempt at something of a Meltdown festival so we are looking forward to a guided icecream tasting with NY Time’s best icecreamer, Gus Rancatore. Gus opened Toscanini’s Ice Cream in Cambridge Massachusetts in 1981. Since then Toscanini’s has been making a great variety of frozen desserts, from Kenyan Khulfi to Yuzu soft-serve.
Spencer from Cocoa Runners (who gave a sell-out chocolate tasting at Prufrock a couple of months back) will deliver a presentation on chocolate fermentation. He’s bring bars a plenty to sample.
MIT University lecturer Ben Wurgaft will deliver a talk on writing in coffee shops.
An exciting late addition to the line up is Ben Bicknell from Five Senses Coffee in Australia. He is the head of innovation and strategic planning here. He is a World Barista Championship sensory judge and recently presented at the SCAE RECO Syposium in Dublin. Ben is a wonderful coffee person who has no qualms swapping a Macro Symposium for a Mico one and we can’t wait to hear all about the trials and tribulations of building a washing station in Sumatra.
Merry herself, recently a recipient of an Japanese imperial award has delivered lectures on Japanese coffee culture all around the world including at the SCAA Symposium. She is the author of the incredible book Coffee Life In Japan which we will have available online. She’s talking the 4th wave (or 3.5 she thinks) in Japanese speciality coffee.
Each talk will be 20-25 mins with a little Q and A. It’s a fast paced super informal, fun and hands on celebration of all things creamy, fermented, historical and delicious with a strong coffee theme.
Hope to see you there
