Martin Kingdom is an artist living and working in East London. His work adopts traditional techniques, oil, watercolour and ink to depict scenes of a commonplace yet fantastical nature. The paintings and drawing work primarily explore a darkly jocose future that seemingly looks almost mundane. It gently shows elements of demise and regrowth, catastrophe, celebration and asks questions of our collective future. Working in Shoreditch in the early 2000s he discovered the Prufrock coffee bar on Shoreditch High Street and was asked to design the 4,6 and 8 ounce cup illustrations, and made some lasting friendships with coffee enthusiasts. Martin also produces commissioned illustrative work, published in magazines and recently films.
