Scott Rao is coming back to Prufrock this year to conduct two-hour intensive small group roasting workshops. He will also be giving a big lecture on the evening of the 13th. Scott’s amazingly frank and influential roasting textbook, The Coffee Roaster’s Companion, has been passed around all the great roasteries we buy from here at Prufrock. People attending this workshop will receive a direct email from Scott with a list of what to do to prep for the course and what to bring. He would like all attendees to bring curves and roast samples. The group will cup and critique the samples together, and Scott will offer advice about adjusted settings to improve the roasts. It will be a masterclass in roast-curve analysis and adjustment. The course will be carried out in Prufrock’s training centre at Leather Lane.
Scott has more experience roasting and consulting than anyone in the roasting world and all this on an immense number of machines and different coffees lending him a truly global perspective. Typifying his very Socratic style of teaching he remarks ‘I don’t have all the answers, but I know a lot about what aren’t the answers.’ Come learn from the World’s pre-eminent coffee educator and take this chance to cup and compare notes with 9 other roasting enthusiasts and professionals.
To bring roast samples for group cupping and curve analysis, we will ask you to bring a printout of the roast curve from Cropster or Artisan. If you use some other roasting software, we will put you in direct contact with Scott to see if the roast data is adequate for the exercise.
To keep things super focused we have limited each session to 10 people who will bring the samples and an additional 5 people who will listen and taste only.
